Artificial grass is a man-made material comprising synthetic fibres that look like real grass. These synthetic grass blades are green and can come in different pile heights. Artificial grass is made in the same way as a carpet, having a solid backing to which the blades are stitched
It is commonly used for sporting applications and in some cases is preferred to real grass. You will often see it utilised for sports such as football, hockey, cricket, golf and more. It is also commonly used in residential and commercial landscaping, for outdoor areas and gardens.
Artificial grass saves both time and money. Natural grass may require upkeep and watering during heatwaves, to which, artificial grass does not.
It also cannot die like real grass and can stand the test of time for twenty years or more. It remains green, doesn’t require cutting, fertilising, pest or weed control and won’t develop any brown spots.
We can fit artificial grass onto almost any surface in both domestic and commercial settings. However, we recommend laying it on a hardcore base with a layer of grano on top, allowing a flat draining surface. We can prepare this for you as part of your installation.
Installation is certainly not a one-man-job. It involves excavation of the area, removing any rocks, debris, weeds or roots, and compacting and screeding the surface area. In some situations, an underlay may be necessary.
You do not need a landscaper to install artificial grass, as it’s very similar to fitting a carpet. In this case, carpet fitters have more relevant expertise and can offer a more even and realistic finish.
