Broadly speaking, laminate flooring is made up of three layers. It has a base layer at the bottom, utilising either plywood or high-density fibreboard for strength and stability. In the middle there’s an image layer resembling your desired style, usually a wood or stone look. Finally, on top there’s a very durable protective layer.
Due to its durability and resistance against scuffs and stains, laminate flooring is ideal for areas of your home with heavy foot traffic. This includes hallways, entryways, dining rooms and living rooms.

When comparing the differences between laminate and LVT, you will see quite similar results. The look and style will be pretty even, since they are both made with 3D printing technology.
Generally laminate is not waterproof and therefore will need mopping as soon as there is a spill. However, there are is range of laminate flooring that guarantees water protection. LVT is made from PVC which will always be 100% waterproof.
Both are also extremely durable. The only difference being that it’s possible to recoat an LVT floor with a new protective layer. This may be beneficial for areas with high foot traffic. It is not possible to recoat laminate flooring.
